Touring holidays in The Chilterns

The Chilterns are a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty formed of chalk hills, and appear as an escarpment about 30 miles northwest of London. They include many hidden and very pretty dry valleys and chalk streams as well as the Thames river, which has cut its way dramatically through this landscape. Essentially a rural area, there are attractive villages and inns nestled in the hills and valleys as well as ancient towns. Above all the Chilterns are known for their numerous ancient beech woods and the red kites that fly high up in the hills.

And touring is the way to go around here with its plethora of tiny back lanes, dotted settlements and rural landscape. Searching out excellent accommodation is a challenge be it a boutique hotel or country inn, but we have it sorted. One of the joys of the area, is it’s not well visited or populated and yet we think it is as beautiful as the Cotswolds and so close to London that a weekend trip here is a dream.
