Walking holidays in Dorset & The New Forest
Dorset’s coast is famous as the Jurassic coast with its dramatic rock formations, sandy beaches and fossils, the only place on Earth where rocks representing 185 million years of Earth’s history can be seen in one place hence its World Heritage listing. Inland, the rolling countryside is beautiful and unspoilt much of it far from the madding crowd and listed as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Beloved by authors such as Thomas Hardy and Enid Blyton, it’s a perfect area for walking with authentic thatched villages, an abundance of history, pretty towns and vibrant hubs.
Adjacent and in complete contrast, the New forest is home to almost 200,000 acres of stunning forest and heathland, and is one of Britain’s most unspoilt natural habitats with special qualities, including the freedom to ramble across unenclosed land. Created as a royal forest by William I in about 1079, it was made a National Park in 2002.
Our wonderful walks in the area which can be combined with cycling cover the coast and inland making for a very varied trip.
