Walking holidays in Kent

Known as the Garden of England with its orchards and market gardens, Kent enjoys a warm climate and lies on the coast looking out into the English Channel. Its Cinque ports and castles tell of its historic maritime importance and its old shore lines provide interesting walking. We think the area is a bit of a hidden treasure - it’s not as trendy as the Cotswolds nor as obvious a choice as Devon. But with its slower pace of life and fine local produce, it’s all rather appealing.

Along with its ancient villages and fascinating towns, there is quite a list of remarkable castles built by the Romans and Henry VIII to name but a few, whilst Leeds Castle is a stunning place to stay. The inland downs make this a colourful area and provided the pilgrimage routes for Chaucer and others to Canterbury, enjoying a network of churches, stunning views often little changed today and some now rare chalk habitats. Local produce is all around from oysters, to vineyards, soft fruit to beer and cider as well as a handful of wonderful gardens.
