Cycling holidays in Austria

Austria is a fantastic destination for a cycling holiday. The combination of dramatic mountains and flat valley floors means cycling with spectacular views alongside some challenging climbs. The majority of the cycling is traffic-free, with farmers’ lanes providing a perfect surface to glide along on our hybrid bikes. Our special not-so-gentle cycling holiday here, has been carefully put together in collaboration with local experts, so you can discover both the highlights and the hidden gems of this lush country. You will encounter traditions and folklore, pretty villages, gushing rivers and dramatic mountains. And with a total of 30 lakes surrounding Salzburg, its historic capital, there’s the added bonus of being able to stop off en route for a quick (if bracing!) dip.

Hotels are often family-run and have extremely high standards of service alongside a lovely personal touch. We highly recommend Austria for groups big and small. For active types with boundless energy, you can find an array of summer adventure sports and activities on offer in many of the ski resorts during summer. For those looking for something more cultural, there is so much to explore in terms of history, architecture and the arts, and not just in the capital Salzburg. And if all that stimulation tires you out, it’s worth noting that Austria also does rest and relaxation extremely well - with a wealth of world-leading spas and of course fantastic patisserie cafes. The apfel strudel is a must!
